ICC World Cup: England set New Zealand a target of 283 runs


   Hyderabad (News Hub Update latest Sports News. October 5, 2023) In the opening match of the ICC World Cup, England has given New Zealand a target of 283 runs to win. In the match being played at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, the England team's openers provided a 40-run start, but David Mullan lost his wicket on an individual score of 14, which was returned to the pavilion by Matt Henry on 14 runs.

   England's second wicket fell on 64 when Jonny Bairstow fell to Mitchell Santner for 33 runs. Harry Brook was dismissed for 25 runs by Richan Rondra, the fourth wicket fell to Moeen Ali on 118 runs, who was dismissed by Glenn Phillips for 11 runs. Skipper Jos Buttler was dismissed for 43 runs by Matt Henry. Liam Livingstone was caught off Trent Boult Lee for 20, and Chris Woakes was caught for 11.

   Sam Curran scored 14 runs. Adil Rashid and Mark Wood's partnership of 30 runs in the final overs helped the England team score 282 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Adil Rashid played an unbeaten innings of 15 and Mark Wood 13 runs. On behalf of New Zealand, Matt Henry took 3 wickets while Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner got 2, 2 wickets, and Boult Lee and Rondra got one wicket each.

   Earlier, New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and decided to field first. He said that Kane Williamson is recovering, and will be part of the playing eleven in the next matches. On this occasion, England team captain Jos Buttler said that he would have decided to field first after winning the toss, but he will try to set a big target against the Kiwis.

   The New Zealand squad includes captain Tom Latham, Mitchell Santner, Dion Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Matt Henry, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Jamie Nesham, and Trent Boult.

   The England squad consists of captain Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid, Jonny Bairstow, David Mullan, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and Mark Wood.
