UAE introduces 3-day weekend for employees


   Abu Dhabi (Newshub Update Latest News 9 June 2023) The UAE has allowed a 3-day weekend for workers. According to Khaleej Times, the government of the United Arab Emirates has introduced new plans for employees working in the federal sector, which will be effective from July 1, 2023.

   These plans allow a three-day weekend for employees who complete 10 hours a day four days a week, known as a compressed working week.

   The compressed working week is one of the five working models announced under the Human Resources Law for government employees in the UAE. Effective July 1, in Cabinet Resolution No. 48 of 2023, the UAE government has outlined the following five working models for employees.

    Office work;


   Employees perform their duties at the employer's head office or designated locations

    Remote work in UAE;


   Following the Remote Work Law approved by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the UAE Cabinet, employees perform their work from a location within the country that is outside the employer's office.

    Remote work outside UAE;


   Employees have to perform their duties from a location outside the country

    Hybrid work;


   This working model allows one to choose the option of working both office-based work and remote work.

    Compressed working week;

   In certain circumstances, employees may work more per day to complete the total required hours in a shorter period of working days, for UAE employees this means working 10 hours per day for four days. 

   According to Newshub, the new UAE law aims to improve public institutions, according to Article 2 of the law, employees who work ten hours a day and four days a week will be given a three-day weekend under the "compressed working week".
