   Multan (Newshub Update Latest Cricket PSL8 News 14 February 2023) In the opening match of the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League, defending champions Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by 1 run after a thrilling encounter. In the first match being played at Multan Cricket Stadium, Mirza Tahir Baig and Fakhar Zaman opened for Lahore Qalandars and established a partnership of 61 runs for the first wicket. Tahir Beg returned to the pavilion after playing an inning of 32 runs off 26 balls, he was shown the way to the pavilion by Aqeel Hussain.

   Wicketkeeper-batsman Shay Hope scored 19 runs from 17 balls with the help of one six and one four. Fakhar Zaman was dismissed on the first ball of the 16th over to score his first half-century of the season.

   Fakhr Zaman scored 66 off 42 balls with the help of 5 sixes and 3 fours. Hussain Talat scored 20 runs off 12 balls with the help of a six and a four to take the team's score to 164 and returned to the pavilion on the ball of Ehsanullah.

   The last batsman out was David Wiese, who faced just 4 balls and scored 5 runs, giving away the wicket of Shahnawaz Dhani on the last ball. Lahore Qalandars scored 175 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and Fakhr Zaman was the successful batsman. On behalf of Multan Sultans, Osama Mir, and Ehsanullah took 2 wickets each, and Shahnawaz Dhani and Aqeel Hussain dismissed one player each.

   Mohammad Rizwan and Shaan Masood opened the innings for Multan Sultans, while Mohammad Rizwan completed his half-century. Shaan Masood has scored 35 off 30 balls. Mohammad Rizwan continued his responsible batting and completed his fifty he scored 75 runs and was dismissed by Shaheen Shah Afridi. Earlier Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and decided to bowl.

   Multan Sultans team includes captain Muhammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Usman Khan, Kieron Pollard, Khushdil Shah, Aqeel Hussain, David Miller, Osama Mir, Samin Gul, Shahnawaz Dhani, and Ehsanullah.

   Lahore Qalandars team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhr Zaman, Haris Rauf, Tahir Baig, Shai Hope, Kamran Ghulam, Hussain Talat, Sikandar Raza, Liam Dawson, David Welle, and Zaman Khan are included.
