United States (Newshub Update Latest News 20 June 2023)American and Canadian rescue teams have been searching since Monday for a submarine carrying five people to the wreck of the Titanic after it disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean in four days or less.

The U.S. Coast Guard is leading the search for the missing watercraft in Boston, which went missing Sunday night about 435 miles south of St. John's, Newfoundland, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Halifax and Nova Scotia said.

Rear Admiral John Mauger, commander of the 1st Coast Guard District, said the search involved two Canadian and U.S. aircraft and a commercial vessel, and that the pursuit would continue into the night.

Location of Operation - About 900 miles east of Cape Cod and to a depth of 13,000 feet, requiring sightings both at the water surface and below.

"Searching in a remote area is a challenge," Rear Adm. John Mauger, commander of the 1st Coast Guard District, said at a news conference, "but we are deploying all assets to ensure that we can locate the ship." and save the people on board."

The Coast Guard posted a message via social media that the 21-foot submarine named "Titan," which departed from St. John's, began diving on Sunday. The Canadian ship Polar Prince lost contact with the "Titan" for about an hour and 45 minutes.

OceanGate Expeditions, a Washington-based deep-sea exploration company, has confirmed that it owns the submarines.

The Titanic wreck site includes the company's oceanographers and biologists. OceanGate also brings in "mission experts" who pay to come along.

A pilot and four "mission specialists" were on board, according to the Coast Guard.

"We are deeply grateful for the support we received from government and deep sea agencies in our efforts to restore contact with the submarine," OceanGate said. "We are working for the safe return of the crew."

Based on company information, Rear Admiral John Meagher said the submarine has a 96-hour emergency sustainment capability, which would include oxygen and fuel. "So we expect to find between 70 and 96 hours."
