ICC World Cup: New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets


   Bengaluru:(News Hub Update latest ICC World Cup News. November 9, 2023) In the 41st match played at the M.Channaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bengaluru, Sri Lanka had given New Zealand a target of 172 runs to win, which the New Zealand team achieved at the loss of five wickets in 23.2 overs.

   After this success, New Zealand's chances of reaching the semi-finals have increased, while the situation has become impossible for Pakistan.

   On the points table, New Zealand remains in the fourth position with 10 points, while after the match, New Zealand's net run rate improved further from 0.398 to 0.743.

   In pursuit of the target, the New Zealand openers gave the team a good start. Dion Convoy and Richan Ravindra were dismissed with 45 and 45 runs, while Daryl Mitchell was the standout with 43 runs.

   Glenn Phillips scored 17, Kane Williamson scored 14, Mark Chapman scored 7 runs and Tam Latham finished with 2 runs.

   For the Sri Lankan team, Angelo Mathews took 2 wickets, and Mahesh Tekshana and Dashmantha Chimera took one wicket each.

   The Sri Lankan team was all out by scoring 171 runs in 46.4 overs, Sri Lankan openers failed to give the team a good start, opener Patham Nissanka scored 2 runs, and captain Kaushal Mendis scored 6 runs.

   Among the other players, Dhananjaya De Silva 19, Charith Asalanka 8, Angelo Mathews 16, Chamika Karunaratne 6, and Sudira Samara Wickrama and Chamera got out with one run each. Kaushal Perera was the top scorer for New Zealand with 51 runs. In the 10th wicket partnership, Mahesh Thiekshana and Dilshan Madhushanka made a partnership of 43 runs, but Madhushanka lost the wicket.

   On behalf of the New Zealand team, Trent Boult took 3 wickets, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra took 2, 2 wickets while Tim Southee took one wicket.

   Earlier, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to field first. On this occasion, Sri Lankan team captain Kaushal Mendis said that they would have decided to field first after winning the toss, but they will try to qualify directly for the Champions Trophy by winning the match.

   Both the teams have made one change each, with New Zealand replacing Lockie Ferguson with Ish Sodhi while Sri Lanka replaced Kisan Rajitha with Chimera in the playing XI.

   On the other hand, there are chances of rain in the match between the two teams, if the match is abandoned due to rain then both teams will get one point each.
