   Afghanistan created history by defeating Pakistan for the first time in the ICC World Cup match.

    Chennai: (News Hub Update latest Cricket News. October 23, 2023) Pakistan's target of 283 runs was set by Afghanistan at the loss of 2 wickets in the 49th over.

   Afghan openers Rahmanullah Garbaz and Ibrahim Zadran opened the innings in Pakistan's chase of 283 runs in the 22nd match of the ICC World Cup played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

   Rahmanullah Garbaz returned to the pavilion after scoring 65 runs off the ball of Shaheen Afridi for the first wicket of the Afghan team at 130 runs. At a total score of 190, Ibrahim Zadran fell victim to Hasan Ali after playing a brilliant innings of 87 runs.

   Pakistan's openers against Afghanistan gave the team a start of 56 runs, but Imamul Haq scored 17 runs and Abdullah Shafiq got out after playing an innings of 58 runs. Mohammad Rizwan who came in fourth place scored 8 runs, Saud Shakeel scored 25 runs and captain Babar Azam played an innings of 74 runs.

   The sixth wicket partnership between Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed made 73 runs. Iftikhar Ahmed scored 40 runs with the help of two fours and 4 sixes while playing an aggressive innings. 

   During the match, opener Abdullah Shafiq also hit Pakistan's first six in the ODI powerplay this year for which the Pakistani team played 1169 balls.

   Abdullah Shafiq completed his half-century in 60 balls with the help of 4 fours and two sixes. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat and included all-rounder Shadab Khan in place of Mohammad Nawaz in the playing XI. Spinner Noor Ahmed has been included in the Afghan team's playing XI in place of Fazlul Haq Farooqui.

   Both the teams have played four matches in the ICC World Cup, in which Pakistan won two and lost two, while Afghanistan faced one victory and three defeats.

   Earlier, this Chennai pitch was used for the match between Australia and India and now it is used for the match between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

   Regarding the Chennai pitch, former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch says that the pitch has no grass at all and is one of the slowest pitches even by Chennai's standards.

   Pakistan team is fifth in the points table with two wins in two matches while the Afghan team is in the last position with one match win.
