Sending to The Celtics are sending centers Mike Mascala and Danilo Gallinari to Washington as part of the deal, sources told NewsHub.

The three-team deal came together for Porzingis through the midnight ET deadline for the 2023-24 season. After the deal was completed, Porzingis opted out, NewsHub sources said.

The trade capped a long day of talks between the Celtics and Wizards over the Porzingis deal, as the two teams had previously tried to finalize a three-team deal with the Los Angeles Clippers that sent Malcolm Brogdon to Los Angeles. was sent, it was the 30th pick. Wizards and Porzingis to the Celtics in the draft.

When the deal fell apart, Boston negotiated with Porzingis and put the deal together before the deadline. For the Celtics, this deal represents a change in what their team will look like.

Porzingis, who turns 28 on Aug. 2, had his best NBA season in Washington. The 2015 NBA draft pick from the New York Knicks was playing his first full season in Washington when the Wizards traded for him at the 2022 trade deadline, sending Spencer Dinwiddie to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange.

Now he's headed to Boston, where the Celtics are trying to build their roster to make another run at an 18th NBA championship. Porzingis would give the Celtics a full complement of depth, with stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum fielding those two picks.

The acquisition of Porzingis was the first of several big decisions for the Celtics this summer, as the Boston Browns, a five-year All-Star, can sign a $295 million contract extension and have to settle the restricted free agent forward's future. Grant Williams.

Boston will also have to adjust to life without Smart, who has been the heart of the team in his nine years with the franchise. Boston was the longest-tenured player on the roster and one of the league's best and most versatile perimeter defenders, recognized by winning the 2021-22 Defensive Player of the Year award.

All of those things that Smart has embraced are what the Grizzlies will be looking for in him in Memphis, as they try to bounce back from a first-round exit against the Los Angeles Lakers. Smart, who averaged a season-high 6.3 assists last season, will be able to step into the starting point guard role for Memphis while Ja Morant serves his 25-game season suspension.

Jones was expected to be the starting point guard now in Washington, where the new president of basketball Michael Winger is reshaping the team's roster.

It's the second trade the Wizards have made in as many days, completing a blockbuster deal on Sunday to send Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns for Kolander Schmidt, Chris Paul, several second-round picks, and a first-round pick.

Meanwhile, Washington forward Kyle Kuzma, one of the most intriguing free agents this summer, declined his player option and will be a free agent, sources said Tuesday.
