Muscat (Newshub Update Latest News 04 January 2023) In the Gulf Kingdom of Oman, a fine has been imposed for spitting in public places, according to which a fine of 20 Omani Rials will be imposed for those caught spitting in public places. According to Gulf News, Oman's municipality says that spitting in public places is a violation of local laws, and those caught spitting in public places will be fined 20 Omani Rials.

The Municipality of Oman said that spitting in public places will now be seen as a violation of local laws and violators will be fined 20 Omani Rials.

The Omani Municipality stressed that such negative behavior affects the overall appearance of the city and has a negative impact on public health as the saliva droplets of the victim can infect others. He added that a fine of 100 Rials will be imposed on those who dispose of waste in wrong places, and the fine will be doubled for repeat offences.

In addition, the country's Shura Council has approved a bill to introduce an income tax on high earners, but it is pending approval by the Council of Ministers, after which the tax will become law. According to a Newshub report, Oman has forecast a fiscal deficit of 1.5 billion Omani riyals in 2022, which is about 32 percent less than last year, but it is becoming a tax reality for the wealthy in Oman. Oman would be the first GCC country to introduce an income tax.

It is learned that as part of the Ministry of Finance's 2020-2024 efforts to reduce the fiscal deficit, Oman began considering the introduction of an income tax on high earners 2 years ago. This was done in a bond prospectus published by the ministry, when the kingdom raised $2 billion in external financing.
