Chasing a target of 180, Ireland was five wickets down for 25 after Lorcain Tucker tried to take over the team, but wickets continued to fall from one end to the other. The entire team was bowled out for 137 runs in 18.1 overs.
Ireland batsman Lorcain Tucker remained unbeaten on 71 runs.
In the match played in Brisbane, Ireland won the toss and invited Australia to bat. The Australian team scored 179 runs for the loss of five wickets, and captain Aaron Finch played an innings of 63 runs.
Opener David Warner returned to the pavilion after scoring three runs, while Mitchell Marsh scored 28, Glenn Maxwell scored 13 and Marcus Stones scored 35 runs.
After Ireland's defeat, Australia moved to second place in the Group 1 point table, while Ireland's team moved to third place, the New Zealand team first, and England third.
