In the match being played in Melbourne, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. While batting first, the Indian cricket team scored 184 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Surya Kumar Yadav played an aggressive game and played an innings of 61 runs off 25 balls with the help of 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Among other players, captain Rohit Sharma scored 15, Rahul 51, Virat Kohli 26, Rishabh Pant 3 while Hardik Pandya stood out by scoring 18 runs. For Zimbabwe, Shaun Williams took 2 wickets while Blessing Mazarbani and Richard Ngarwa took one wicket each.
Zimbabwe got off to a disappointing start in chasing the target, with openers Wesley Madhuwere and Regis Chikabwa scoring zero, skipper Craig Irwin 13, Sean Williams 11, Tony Munyonga 5, Richard Ngarwa and Wellington Masakadza scoring one each.
The Zimbabwean team was all out by scoring 115 runs in 17.2 overs, but Sikandar Raza played a resistant innings of 34 and Ryan Brill 35.
For India, Ashwin took 3 wickets, Hardik Pandya and Mohammad Shami took 2 and 2 respectively while Bhaneshwar Kumar took one wicket.
Earlier, Pakistan had managed to reach the semi-finals by defeating Bangladesh.
